The Bristol Partnership has agreed an ambitious agenda for the city to ensure that Bristol is succesful, that everyone shares in that success, and that success is sustainable - protecting our environment for future generations.
It is inviting all organisations to make a Pledge to help make Bristol a green capital - a low carbon city with a high quailty of life. We need your support for Bristol to flourish into the 21st century - and to play its part in tackling the major environmental challenges of climate change and finite natural resources.
Bristol has agreed targets for reducing citywide carbon emissions by 34% by 2020 (against 1990 levels) equivalent to 21% (against a 2005 baseline). This is a significant challenge!
To achieve this will require nothing less than a tranformation in the way we do business, travel around the city, build and renovate our homes and buildings, source our food, build and grow our communities and live our lives.
It means shifting towards a low carbon economy and society.
Scenarios for run-away climate change imply major changes in land use, mass migration, loss of biodiversity and of habitats. The scientific case for action on climate change has been won. The challenge now is to secure the political will and leadership required to bring forward the solutions.
Demonstrate your committment to making a difference by signing our Pledge. There are many ways you can contribute and that we can support you. Your priority may be carbon management, or keeping up with environmental legislation. You may have environmental services to offer, or experiences and innovations that put sustainability at the heart of what you do. Whatever your priority for action, we want to hear from you if it is contributing to the goal of making Bristol a greener city.
We will support you achieve your committments - details are available in our Members area.
Other schemes you may want to join in the region are The Prince of Wales May Day Network and the West of England Carbon Challenge.
